Mapping Nairobi's Green Future
GreenMap empowers communities to monitor, preserve, and expand urban green spaces for a climate-resilient city.
How GreenMap Works
Our platform combines satellite data with community insights to monitor and protect Nairobi's valuable green spaces.
Vegetation Monitoring
We use Sentinel-2 satellite data and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) analysis to monitor vegetation health and detect areas where green cover is declining across the city.
Urban Heat Mapping
Urban Heat Islands (UHI) are areas within the city that are significantly warmer than their surroundings, mainly due to dense buildings, roads, and limited vegetation. Using MODIS Land Surface Temperature data, we map these hotspots and reveal their connection to reduced green cover.
Crowdsourced Reports
Enabling community members to geotag green spaces, report degradation, and suggest potential areas for regreening.
Interactive Maps
Explore dynamic maps showing green space density, urban heat zones, and community contributions using Leaflet.js and OpenStreetMap.
Data-Driven Insights
Comprehensive dashboards providing ward-level analytics to support informed decision-making for urban planning.
Collaborative Action
Connecting environmental stakeholders, planners, and community members to drive collective climate action initiatives.
